CUSAGC has good connections with both the Guiding and Scouting communities in the Cambridgeshire area and we also run several events specifically for local groups. Many of our members are leaders at local groups, although doing so is not a necessary part of membership (an equally, you can be a student leader in Cambridge without being a member of CUSAGC!). The SAGLO (Scout and Guide Liasion Officer) is able to help members find units throughout the year, starting at the Freshers’ Fair. We also hold an annual Cheese and Wine evening in October, at which local Scout and Guide leaders will be present and on the look out for new recruits! Please contact the SAGLO if you would like to know more.
The largest event we organise is Forward, an incident hike for around 30 teams of Scouts and Guides, held in March each year. It is held in locations near to Cambridge, and recently has been to Toft and Bar Hill. There are five manned bases along the route where teams have to do everything from first aid to tent pitching to blindfolded sheep herding! For more information, please visit the Forward page.
We also organise Marathon, an incident hike for Explorers and Senior Section (and adults!), held towards the end of November or beginning of December. It involves teams attempting to visit 26 checkpoints, some of them with challenges, partly during hours of darkness. For more information visit the Marathon page.
