Here you can see the programme for the 2017 Michaelmas term. If you have any questions, you can email the social secretary. As always, if you have any activities you would like to see us run, let us know!
Fresher’s Squash, Wednesday 11th October, 7pm, Emmanuel College
We’re beginning the year with our annual Fresher’s Squash, starting with a game in Emmanuel, before we take to the streets of Cambridge for a monopoly run, before (of course) retiring to the pub.
Fresher’s Hike, Sunday 15th October, 1pm, Outside Christ’s Lane Starbucks
Our annual Fresher’s hike will see us get the bus out to Oakington, before walking back via Histon, Girton, Coton, and the West Cambridge Site. It’s a gentle stroll rather than a serious hike and as such if you don’t have any boots with you in Cambridge, decent trainers will be fine. Make sure you bring a waterproof!
Cheese and Wine Evening, Saturday 21st October, 7pm, Queens’ College
Our cheese and wine evening is an opportunity to meet and chat to Scout and Guide leaders from across Cambridge, and is a nice social event. There will also be an option to find a local group to help at, if you want to.
Quiz Night, Wednesday 25th October, 7pm, Newnham College
We’ll be meeting at Newnham College for a quiz night. Make sure to bring your brain!
Escape Room, Monday 30th October, Time TBC, Lockhouse Games
We’ll be testing our mental dexterity (hopefully it will be at a peak after the quiz last week!) and trying to escape from a room, solving various puzzles along the way.
Campfire, Sunday 5th November, 6pm, 28th Cambridge Scout Hut, Flamsteed Road
We are celebrating bonfire night with our own campfire. Marshmallows will be toasted, and you will almost certainly go home smelling of wood smoke!
Craft Night, Thursday 16th November, 54th Cambridge Scout Hut, Chesterton Primary School
Our craft need will be a chance to relax and get away from work; in the past we have done spoon carving and made neckers out of duct tape, let us know if you have any ideas for this time!
Test Marathon Activities, Monday 20th November, Time TBC, Parker’s Piece
We’ll be testing some of the activities that we will be running for Explorers and Senior Section Guides on the bases at Marathon on Saturday. In the past this has included blindfold sheep herding and rescuing ducks. We usually head to the pub afterwards too.
Marathon, Saturday 25th November, All Day, Burrough Green
Marathon is the annual incident hike we run for members of Scouting and Guiding aged 14+. It involved teams finding their way between 26 checkpoints (hence the name), four of which are manned and have challenges on. We need lots of CUSAGC members to come and help running activities/driving minibuses/running the radios. It’s a long day but really good fun.
Progressive Meal, 29th/30th November, Time TBC
Progressive Meal is a CUSAGC tradition which involves eating a 3 (or 4!) course meal, eating each course at a different person’s college. It’s a great social event and a nice way to end the term.
CTW, 27th-30th December, Lake District
CTW is our annual winter walking trip, this year taking place in the Lake District. We stay in a Scout Hut, walk up mountains during the day and enjoy each other’s company, often around a campfire, at night. More details will be available later this term.
